‘Skibidi,’ ‘delulu’ & more officially join Cambridge Dictionary

The vocabulary of the chronically online is being cemented in the English language.

The Cambridge Dictionary has announced the addition of 6,000 new words, including “skibidi” and “delulu.”

For those who weren’t born in a year that starts with a 2, skibidi is an adjective that “can have different meanings such as ‘cool’ or ‘bad,’ or can be used with no real meaning as a joke.” Delulu is also an adjective, meaning “believing things that are not real or true, usually because you choose to.”

“We only add words where we think they’ll have staying power,” says Colin McIntosh, Cambridge Dictionary’s lexical programme manager. “Internet culture is changing the English language, and the effect is fascinating to observe and capture in the Dictionary.”

Other newly added words include “tradwife,” “lewk” and “broligarchy.”
