Popeye the Sailor Man's favorite food is spinach. He is famous for eating a can of spinach to gain superhuman strength to defeat his enemies. The association of spinach with strength was created in the 1920s to combat child malnutrition. 

In the movie Cast Away, Chuck Noland (played by Tom Hanks) is marooned on the deserted island for four years. After his plane crashes in late 1995, he survives alone until escaping on a raft and being rescued in 1999, as indicated by the timeline in the film.
