Underwear Bandit’s Very Bad Day

A Belgian man is facing a long list of charges after what prosecutors describe as an extremely bizarre crime spree.

Authorities say the 36-year-old fled a hospital where he was being treated for mixing alcohol with prescription medication, violated a restraining order, ransacked his ex-partner’s apartment, then armed himself with the blade from an electric carving knife. From there, say he tried to rob a supermarket while wearing underwear over his head to disguise himself, threatening a teenage cashier but leaving empty-handed when she refused to back down. Investigators say he then set some of his clothes on fire in an apartment building, triggering an evacuation.

But the adventure didn’t end there. Prosecutors say he stole a funeral home’s Mercedes, used bank cards found inside to buy cigarettes, and drove to Brussels to buy cocaine before being arrested. He later allegedly threatened police officers and suffered a broken leg while being restrained. All in a day’s work. (Brussels Times)
