SCHOOL DISTRICT NAMES NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AFTER CUSTODIAN

A beloved Texas school custodian who spent 39 years lifting up students is receiving an amazing tribute from her community — having a brand-new elementary school named in her honor.

Seventy-six-year-old Marilyn Hampton worked for the Aubrey Independent School District for nearly four decades. She did far more than keep the hallways spotless. She also bought supplies for kids in need, tutored students, worked athletic events, and made it her life’s mission to put a smile on every child’s face.

After believing for years that she wasn’t a success because she never went to college, Marilyn was brought to tears during a surprise board meeting announcement, where she unrolled a small red carpet bearing the name of the district’s newest campus — Marilyn Hampton Elementary School.

The announcement was certainly a surprise to Marilyn. As she explained, “Whoever thought a janitor would have a school named after them? My goodness. What an honor. It’s an honor that I never thought in my lifetime I would have seen.”
