Story by Rodger Nichols for Gorge Country Media
Klickitat County Commissioners got good news from Jail Administrator Bill Frantz at their meeting yesterday.
“We applied for a grant, and we were awarded $73,000, and we are going to use that money to bolster our infrastructure around the narcotics, so that we can safely store the controlled substances in our jail. One of those is the purchase of a Pixis machine. The Pixis machine is like a fancy toolbox. They can scan their ID, and they can say. ‘I need these medications for so and so and that drawer will pop open and they can take those medications, and it keeps track of what we have in there.”
In the public comment section in the afternoon, John Bruce, a candidate for Klickitat County Sheriff made this observation”
“Senate Bill 6974 is currently sitting on the Governor’s desk. One section of this bill, if the governor signs it, it, it will impact you, the county. One section requires background conducted by the Washington State Patrol. The cost will be passed on to the counties. Washington State Patrol was estimating that backgrounds would cost between $8 and $10,000.”
And Klickitat County applicants who have planned building adjacent dwelling units, or ADUs, just got a big push when the Commission voted unanimously to make ADUs an outright permitted use, instead of the conditional use permits process previously.
