Shoplifters will be lifting up buckets of soapy water after a ruling by a Michigan judge.
As reported by the Associated Press, Judge Jeffrey Clothier has sentenced those convicted of stealing from a local Walmart to wash cars outside the store to fulfill their community service.
“I don’t think everybody that steals is a bad person,” Clothier says. “Sometimes people are just down on their luck. But there’s going to be consequences when you break the law.”
The car washes will be free, and Clothier says that Walmart is “on board” with the plan. The judge also plans to hit the parking lot to wash cars himself.
