It’s no secret that Americans love their dogs, but a new survey shows just how important to us they are.
A survey of 2,000 dog owners in this country shows seven in 10 think their dog is their best friend.
The poll, commissioned by the website PuppySpot, also reveals that four in five admit to pampering their pooch as much as possible.
Chances are it won’t come as a surprise to you, either — if you have a dog, that is — that 42% of dog owners book their pets grooming appointments more often than they might get their own cut and color.
We’re so inseparable from our four-legged companions that over half of those polled take their dogs to run errands, the poll explained; two in five seek out restaurants where their dogs are also welcome, and 35% say they look for vacation destinations at which Fido is also welcome.
Fifty-seven percent celebrate their dog’s birthday, and 56% do so by splurging on new toys; 52% throw an actual party, and 49% celebrate those dog year milestones with a playdate with other pooches.
And with spoiling their dogs in mind, 76% say they spend nearly 300 hours a year looking for the best treats and toys.
