A high school teacher in Georgia and her husband received an anniversary surprise when a tiny black kitten hitched a ride in their car’s suspension.
Nicole, who teaches journalism and literature, was on an errand with her husband, Brandon, to pick up cupcakes for her students’ monthly birthday celebration. Nicole and Brandon were also looking forward to celebrating their anniversary — which happens to be on Halloween.
Nicole was alerted by another helpful driver honking on the road, who saw the stowaway kitten. Nicole pulled over. Brandon examined the car. He didn’t see anything — but he heard the kitten making noise underneath his car. To give the kitten the best chance of success, he called in first responders.
Three firefighters and two police officers arrived on the scene to safely get the kitten out of the car — and allow Nicole and Brandon to get on with their day.
Nicole and Brandon took the seven-week-old kitten, that they named Friday Shadow, to the vet. Despite the bumpy ride, Friday Shadow was in great shape and is now safely settled in his forever home.
“These wonderful first responders should get some recognition for going above and beyond to save such a tiny life,” said Nicole. “Somehow, this tiny black kitten managed to show up just in time to become the most unexpected anniversary present we could have imagined.”
