Doctors hate this: Apples wash up on North Carolina beach

If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, then how much time will a beach full of apples buy you?

That is perhaps not the most pressing question facing employees of the Corolla Wild Horse Fund in North Carolina, who instead were wondering why their local beach was suddenly covered in apples.

“Our employee started heading towards the area where the apples were reported and quickly realized someone didn’t dump them out there on purpose – they seemed to be washing up out of the ocean!” reads a post to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund’s Instagram. “They must have come off a ship out at sea.”

Staff was able to clean up the beach with help from local law enforcement, concerned citizens and other organizations. As for why they didn’t just feed the fruit to the horses, the fund notes that the wild horses they help protect can’t eat apples.

“We’d like to say a HUGE thank-you to everyone who helped collect all the fruit,” the post reads. “Never a dull moment on this beach!”
