It pays to be pretty, if you’re looking at this study

It pays to be better looking. That seems to be the takeaway from a new survey by Information Systems Research, who looked at the careers of more than 43,000 MBA graduates.

Those deemed attractive — as opposed to plain– brought home 2.4% more. Over a 15-year period, that meant they made about $2,500 more annually.

Those perceived as extraordinarily attractive made even more — 11% to be exact — to the tune of $5,500 extra a year.

The study also found that an attractive person is more than 52% likely to hold onto a good job over a 15 year period.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say, and the research may not be foolproof, since the subjects happened to be predominantly white and male. The study also used a panel of five people who simply looked at profile pictures to label the subjects as attractive versus plain.
