With just one month to go until September, parents are gearing up for “back to school” time — and their wallets are already feeling the pinch.
Fifty-two percent say they expect to pay more for school supplies this year than in 2023.
According to a new survey from the financial site WalletHub, 75% of parents think schools ask them to buy too many supplies for their kids.
With many schools requiring everything from pencils to particular brands of calculators, and money already tight for many families, 33% of parents say they’re relying on coupons to get them through. Twenty-nine percent say they plan to apply for a new credit card to pay for it all.
It’s not a surprise, then, that the survey shows 86% of parents think the cost of education is out of control.
