New poll says 62% of Americans are already “worn out” by 2024 election coverage

The next presidential election doesn’t happen until November, but 62% of Americans are already over it, according to a new poll from Pew Research.

The survey notes that while 58% of the respondents say they’re “closely” watching developments about their next trip to the ballot box, nearly 6 in 10 are already worn out by news coverage regarding the election.

That number jumps to 77% — more than 7 in 10 — for the 13% of people who don’t follow political news at all, according to the Pew poll.

Those following the coverage closely slightly outpaces the percentage that said they did back in April 2020 — though in October 2020, that number jumped to 75%.

Splitting the data by political leanings, Republicans and Independents were slightly more engaged in following news about the upcoming elections compared to self-described Democrats, at 64% vs. 58%, according to the new poll.

By age demographics, just 25% of Americans between the ages of 18 to 29 say they actively look for political news, versus 60% of those 65 and older.
