A runaway emu caused a stir in Santa Cruz, California after wandering in and out of traffic on the highway.
The California Highway Patrol says dispatchers received multiple calls about the large bird, noting that while officers often respond to reports involving dogs, cats, deer, and other wildlife, an emu was a first. The bird’s owner arrived at the scene, and with help from CHP officers, the emu was safely rounded up and returned home. No injuries were reported.
