New RecycleOn Centers open in Hood River and The Dalles

Hood River & The Dalles, Ore. — Residents in Hood River and The Dalles have two new free places to recycle materials not accepted in curbside recycling carts. The new centers help reduce contamination in recycling and increase the number of items recycled.

Funded by the companies that make paper and packaging under Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act, the sites are part of a statewide effort to expand recycling access. The two new locations bring the total number of RecycleOn Centers in Oregon to 32.

“These centers show how Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act is expanding access to recycling and improving the quality of materials collected,” said Kim Holmes, Oregon executive director at Circular Action Alliance. “Producer funding helps make that possible.”

“We’re glad to offer Gorge residents a simple, local way to recycle materials that don’t belong in their recycling cart,” said Jim Winterbottom, district manager at Waste Connections of the Columbia Gorge. “These centers make it easier for people to recycle more and keep additional items out of the landfill.”

Accepted materials include plastic bags and stretchy plastic, plastic lids and caps, plastic package handles (such as rigid 6-pack carriers), plastic buckets and pails, shredded paper in a paper bag, and aluminum foil and trays.

Residents can find accepted materials and site hours at RecycleOn.org/OregonCenters.
