A kangaroo spotted hopping around Montreal has been captured after nearly a week on the loose.
Canada’s CTV reports that the animal was finally tranquilized and secured on Tuesday after escaping from a cage in a barn days earlier.
“Following a delicate operation, it has been confirmed that the animal has been captured,” a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Environment said. “It is currently being monitored by professionals to assess its health.”
The kangaroo, which has been nicknamed Joey, has since woken up and is said to be in good health. It’s been transported to a local zoo.
The Ministry of the Environment says that the kangaroo was “being kept illegally.”
