Two-hundred and fifty years after Paul Revere warned Boston that the British are coming, Beantown is again dealing with an influx of people from across the pond.
Scottish soccer fans have taken over Boston to watch their national soccer team play during the World Cup — so much so that, according to NBC Boston, the city has been running out of beer.
The Sam Adams Boston Taproom says it ran out of its Boston Lager over the weekend thanks to thirsty Scots, estimating that they drank about four-times as much as the bar usually sells over a holiday weekend.
“We’ve never seen anything like it,” says Billy DeCain, of the Sam Adams Boston Taproom.
Other area bars, such as the White Bull Tavern, also sold pretty much every drop of beer they had.
“We ran out of everything,” says the White Bull Tavern’s Paul Morris. “The fans have been unbelievable. They’re great — fun, drinking, partying — having a great time.”
While we suspect the Scottish fans are just drinking to have a good time, we can’t help but wonder if drinking Boston dry is also a little bit revenge for the Boston Tea Party.
