For all the internet sleuths out there, it’s time to crack a beer — and the case.
The Montclair Police Department reports that some thirsty thieves made off with 40,000 pounds of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer from a warehouse in Southern California on Aug. 17.
The beer bandits targeted the same Anheuser-Busch distribution center twice within a couple hours, getting away with 1,406 cases — 34,000 cans! — of suds by posing as drivers for a subcontracting company, according to the Los Angeles Times.
But don’t pour one out for the missing PBR just yet. While police are still investigating the cold-one caper, PBR has taken to social media to try to recoup its losses.
“To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way,” the company posted on Instagram. It added the brew burglars have until Sept. 9 to return the beer, “no questions asked.” Lest we think this an elaborate marketing scheme, PBR noted, “P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious.”
