Home on the range, where the tortoise and antelope play

America is not only a melting pot of people, but a melting pot of animals.

In Columbia, Missouri, for example, animal control officers came across a loose turtle thought to be an African spurred tortoise.

“We are still searching for the owner, and hope they are located soon,” Animal Control Department supervisor Kevin Meyers tells KOMU.

Meanwhile, a resident of Plain Dealing, Louisiana, was surprised to see an African antelope standing in the roadway.

“I did not expect it when I started my Monday off to see an exotic animal in Plain Dealing, Louisiana from Africa,” the resident, Tina McKnight Rist, tells KTBS. “I mean, crazy. You just don’t ever know what you’re going to see.”

The antelope is still on the loose, according to the local sheriff’s office.
