What inflation? Report claims Thanksgiving dinner for 10 should cost under $60

While it may seem like the cost of most things has gone up, believe it or not, a new report claims you’ll be paying a lot less to host your Thanksgiving meal this year.

According to the American Farm Bureau’s 39th annual Thanksgiving dinner survey, the cost of feeding a family of 10 this holiday has actually gone down, although most people may question where they are shopping.

The organization bases its report on volunteer shopper information taken between Nov. 1 and Nov. 7, and according to its data, the cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10 should only set families back $58.08, down from $61.17 last year.

And if you think that price only includes turkey and maybe a little stuffing, you’d be wrong. In fact, that price tag includes turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray and pumpkin pie with whipped cream for 10 people. What, no booze?

The report notes that while most of these items went down in price, including milk, which decreased more than 14%, things like dinner rolls and cubed stuffing went up 8%, while cranberries went up 12%.

Now if you like to get a little fancier, the Farm Bureau notes that expanding the menu to include ham, potatoes and frozen green beans will increase the cost of your dinner by $19.26 to $77.34.
