Survey shows Americans less willing to donate to political campaigns in 2024

Whether it be because they feel there’s too much money in politics (83% say so) or they just can’t afford it, only 26% of Americans say they’re going to donate to a political campaign in 2024.

That’s 10% less than in the last presidential election season, 2020, according to a LendingTree poll of 2,0001 consumers.

More than half — 55% — don’t plan to give at all in 2024, and 19% say they aren’t sure, the survey showed.

Among those who won’t give, 50% say it’s because they can’t afford it. Of note, 66% of those surveyed have never contributed to a political campaign.

Twenty-three percent of those keeping their wallets closed this year say they don’t think their donation would make a difference; 16% simply don’t trust any candidates or political party.

Speaking of political parties, the poll revealed 35% of Democrats say they’ll be donating money this year, versus 27% of Republicans.

Seventy-six percent think there should be a limit on how much a candidate is allowed to spend on their campaign.
