Like all expectant parents, choosing a name can be tough: You want something unique, but not too weird — Apple Martin, Gwyneth‘s daughter’s moniker, comes to mind.
Names.org has come out with its list of the 100 Most Popular Baby Names in America for 2023; the company boasts a 98% accuracy rate, as its rankings are based on recent Social Security Administration data.
Long story short, if you were thinking of naming your son-to-be Liam, get in line: For 2023, some 20,636 other parents are naming their son that; it has topped the list since 2017.
For girls, again, the most popular name is Olivia, which has topped the list since 2019 and which will grace the birth certificates of some 18,155 little female bundles of joy this year.
If you had your heart set on those, well, there’s always the middle name to help them stand out.
The company reports Noah is the second-most popular name for boys, with 19,267 kids expected to be so-named in 2023. Oliver took third, with 15,211; James was fourth, with 12,252; and Elijah rounded out the top 5, with 12,234.
For girls, Emma placed second (14,726) and Amelia was third (13,760), with Charlotte and Ava rounding fourth and firth, with 13,599 and 12,190 so-named this year, respectively.
That said, the company says these names will hit the top 10 within the next number of years: For boys, Jack, Levi, Mateo, Luca and Asher; for girls, it’s Eleanor, Gianna and Nora.
