While much is made in the millennial demographic of the struggles of “adulting,” some of them purporting to do it still haven’t cut the cord with their parents financially.
According to a new survey, a third of American adults still have their parents paying one of their monthly bills.
In fact, according to the poll of 2,000 American adults that was commissioned by Chartway Credit Union, nearly one quarter of millennials still have their parents paying their rent.
Nineteen percent say their parents pay for their groceries, and 16% say Mom and Dad keep the lights and water running for them.
Ironically — or perhaps not, because millennials — 85% of those younger people still consider themselves financially responsible.
The poll also says 72% of those adults plan to start paying their own bills within the next two years, but 30% are going to ride that gravy train until their parents cut them off.
