First the Choco Taco, and now this: In an investor call Thursday, Hershey CEO Michele Buck revealed that the chocolate company “will not be able to fully meet consumer demand” for Halloween.
According to CNN Business, supply chain issues, coupled with candy demand that’s been high since the pandemic began, is taking a bite out of Hershey’s ability to produce enough of the sweet stuff for trick-or-treat time.
While Hershey sales figures showed double-digit growth as compared to last year, CNN Business says the call revealed that day-to-day gobbling of Reese’s, Paydays and other brands under the Hershey umbrella will mean empty shelves when it comes to seasonal products — like those beloved Reese’s Peanut Butter Jack O’Lanterns, or Hershey’s white chocolate “fangs” for all those little vampires out there.
It’s either that or see empty shelves for its regular products, Buck noted. “We had a strategy of prioritizing everyday on-shelf availability … It was a tough decision.”
