When blood becomes more acid than normal, what it is the condition called?

hen blood becomes more acidic than normal (with a pH dropping below 7.35), the general condition is called acidosis.

  • Respiratory Acidosis: Occurs when the lungs cannot remove enough carbon dioxide (which forms an acid in the blood) due to breathing difficulties or lung disease. Learn more via the MedlinePlus Acidosis Overview.

When the blood pH actually falls below the normal range (under 7.35), doctors also refer to that specific state of having excess acid in the blood as acidemia.
