Rep. Gina Mosbrucker, R-Goldendale, has been reappointed ranking Republican on the House Community Safety, Justice, and Reentry Committee, formerly the House Public Safety Committee.
House committee assignments were announced Friday by Washington House Republicans.
“It is an honor to continue to serve in leadership on this committee. My family has deep ties in law enforcement, and I am a member of the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Department Posse. Keeping our communities, neighborhoods and citizens safe are among the most basic and essential elements of government, and are very important to me,” said Mosbrucker.
“We have some major issues to tackle in the coming session to achieve a safer Washington, including addressing repercussions of the state Supreme Court’s Blake Decision, which struck down the state’s felony drug possession law; restoring the ability of law enforcement to pursue a vehicle based on reasonable suspicion; and providing more tools to fight the increase in crime related to vehicle theft,” added Mosbrucker. “We also need to support our law enforcement officers by increasing training opportunities and tools to allow them to do their jobs, and by seeking ways to recruit more officers and retain those who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities and families safe.”
In addition to her community safety leadership role, Mosbrucker has been reappointed to the House Capital Budget Committee. The committee considers the state capital budget, which approves money for the construction and repair of public buildings and for other long-term investments, such as land acquisitions and transfers. During the 2022 session, Mosbrucker helped to secure more than $7.6 million of capital budget appropriations for local projects, including $3.2 million for the new Northwest Harvest food bank warehouse in Yakima, and $670,000 for a new animal shelter in Goldendale.
“Our citizens send a lot of their hard-earned dollars to Olympia in the form of taxes. It’s very satisfying to bring some of these dollars back home for projects that create jobs and help our local communities,” said Mosbrucker.
The 14th District lawmaker has also been chosen to serve on the House Health Care and Wellness Committee. The committee considers a broad range of issues relating to physical and behavioral health care services, long-term care, licensing of health care facilities, credentialing of health care providers, regulations of pharmaceuticals, and affordability and access to health insurance.
“I’m looking forward to learning more about the health care needs and services in our state, particularly as COVID and other viral illnesses continue to challenge hospitals and health care facilities that are short staffed. We need to find ways to increase staffing levels and ensure our citizens, including the elderly, have access to reliable, affordable health care and prescription drugs,” noted Mosbrucker.
Mosbrucker will begin her fifth term in office serving the 14th Legislative District when the 2023 Legislature convenes in Olympia on Jan. 9.
