The ADA can’t protect you from the TSA when you’re smuggling cocaine

What would you do if you saw TSA agents surrounding a man in an electric wheelchair? Now ask yourself what you’d do if you saw those same TSA agents ripping said wheelchair apart because it was stuffed with cocaine?

WMUR reports the bizarre scene unfolded at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.  Gabriel Ruiz, 34, was riding in a motorized wheelchair when agents noticed something was off.

Turns out, Ruiz had crammed roughly $1 million worth of cocaine — which is 13 bricks if you need a visual — into the seat of the electric wheelchair.

Ruiz is from New Jersey, but he had been traveling from the Dominican Republic.

TSA agents note this isn’t the first time someone was busted for using a wheelchair to smuggle cocaine. Customs in North Carolina seized 23 pounds of cocaine in a wheelchair last month; the suspect was also coming from the Dominican Republic.
