Owning a Ferrari is a luxury few can afford, so it’s hard not to be curious when someone crashes one of these ultra-expensive vehicles. But then there’s people like this guy, who wrecked his within minutes after buying it.
The Drive reports that a British man purchased a new Ferrari 488 — a car that has a starting MSRP of $330,000 — and crashed nearly as soon as he left the dealership.
The Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit says that the driver managed to put two miles on the odometer before wrecking the Italian sports car. The department even included photos when announcing the accident on their Twitter, which read, “Derby. 1st April. Driver bought a Ferrari this morning and crashed it after driving it less than 2 miles. No injuries.”
The department included photos of the banged-up front bumper and crunched hood, possibly to avoid being accused of pulling an April Fool’s prank. They even commented below their alert, “Not an April Fool. Incident 368 of 01/04/22 refers. Thanks.”
The department didn’t disclose what was the cause of the crash, but The Drive took a closer look at the images and ruled the car likely kissed the steel barrier on the side of the road from possibly driving a little too fast on the urban road.
