Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow Wednesday morning, predicting, as tradition holds, six more weeks of winter.
And while scientists say the rodent isn’t an accurate predictor of spring’s arrival, a new survey shows 58% of Americans believe him — and a quarter of those polled say they believe his predictions “strongly.”
In reality, scientists say, the groundhog is only accurate 39% of the time — about the reliability of a coin flip, but don’t tell that to the 2,000 Americans who took part in the poll.
Nevertheless, 60% of those who responded to OnePoll’s survey say they love the tradition of Groundhog Day, especially considering the craziness of COVID-19.
