While most people use their time off to relax, 24-year-old Stefani Shamrowicz is putting us all to shame by using her vacation time to clean up garbage all over the U.S.
The Fort Collins, Colorado, woman has spent the last 23 days cleaning up some 126 bags of trash on a road trip from Colorado, through New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
“About 80 percent is drinking bottles, and face masks have been pretty common,” Shamrowicz tells SWNS. “I’ve found a few fast-food toys and a tire with a pair of cowboy boots in it.”
And it gets worse than that, Stefani admits. “I’ve picked up probably over 50 bottles of pee and a few bags of human feces,” she notes.
A personal “best” was 100 bags of trash in Ohio on the 16th day of her trek.
Shamrowicz is tracking her trail of clean via Instagram.
“When I post it’s never ‘this is disgusting or we’re awful,’ it’s ‘hey I’m cleaning up this city’ and keeping a positive light on it,” she maintains.
What’s more, when people see her cleaning up, she’s found that they get involved, too.
“I was walking on the beach in Florida, and I started doing a bag, these two ladies saw me and nonchalantly started helping me fill the bag,” she notes.
And if you don’t feel like getting your hands dirty, you can donate 10 bucks for her to fill a bag in your name, with the proceeds used for lodging and gas to keep her road trip going until she has to return to work on June 1.
