New COVID-19 case at Oregon Veterans Home

The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs regrets to inform that one of our honored residents at the Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles has tested positive for COVID-19.

The resident is being cared for by dedicated staff who continue to follow the strictest infection prevention protocols, and we are grateful for the continued dedication of these frontline health care workers. Our thoughts and efforts are with this resident and their family and loved ones, and with the staff who are providing their care.

Sadly, this is a reminder that, despite the high resident vaccination rates at our Homes, no vaccine can prevent 100% of all cases. Fortunately, we are seeing that those residents who are vaccinated have significantly milder symptoms, and often are asymptomatic.

Moreover, no fully vaccinated residents have died or required hospitalization due to COVID since the vaccine rollout began. Nevertheless, while COVID is still among us, we all have a role to play in getting vaccinated and following other common-sense public health guidelines to help keep community spread of new variants as low as possible.

If you have any questions about the status of visitation or admissions, please contact the Homes’ staff directly at 541-296-7190.
