SQUIRREL CAUSES BLACKOUT IN SOUTH CAROLINA

UNDATED (AP) — It was a nutty reason for part of South Carolina’s capital city to be in the dark yesterday. An official with the power company serving Columbia says part of the downtown area was knocked off the grid when a squirrel scampered across some power equipment. A spokesman for Dominion Energy says the squirrel touched part of the equipment protecting a transformer. Not only did that kill the squirrel, it triggered the outage. The power company says it’s unclear whether the squirrel died from the current — or from its fall from the power line.
