Early Saturday morning, just after 1:00 AM, Lyle Fire was paged out to multiple loud explosions and flames rising several feet high on the south side of the tracks, on the east side of Lyle Point off Cove View Lane.
Lyle Fire responded with E-401 (2 crew), B-410 (2 crew), and B-412 (2 crew). Our Assistant Chief on E-401 established command and immediately called for additional resources from our neighboring communities. The initial size-up revealed two RVs, one car, and multiple scattered items on fire, with a grass fire spreading across to the east at approximately 2 acres.
Multiple fire agencies responded to the call for help, including:
• Bingen Fire: 1 engine (3 crew)
• High Prairie Fire (under automatic mutual aid): 1 engine (1 crew) and 1 attack tender (2 crew)
• Dallesport Fire: 1 pumper-tender (2 crew)
• Klickitat Fire: 1 brush truck (2 crew)
• Wahkiacus Fire: 1 brush truck (2 crew)
• Appleton Fire: 2 brush trucks (5 crew)
One Klickitat County EMS District #1 ambulance was also on standby in the area. Three law enforcement agencies responded, including the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), Yakama Tribal Police, and Inter-Tribal Police. A Klickitat PUD (KPUD) representative was on-scene for power safety; fortunately, the power lines in the area are underground, but the grass fire was spreading east toward the Lyle Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire in about an hour and a half, spending about three hours total on-scene. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
We greatly appreciate our neighboring fire districts for the middle-of-the-night response!
We were all incredibly well-supported by our 911 dispatchers in Goldendale, who did an amazing job communicating with multiple agencies across the Columbia Gorge.
