A 12-year-old middle schooler in Phoenix, Arizona, named Sloan was just seven years old when she noticed a bare shelf at her local food bank. The shelf was for diapers — and she learned that diapers were always among the most requested items, and that they had already run out. Sloan decided to do something about it.
Five years later, with the help of her mom and volunteers, Sloan delivered a U-Haul truck full of diapers to the Nourish Phoenix food bank. Her yearly diaper drive has grown since her first run at it. This year, she smashed her personal goal, donating more than 30,000 diapers for Arizona parents in need.
Sloan’s mom is understandably proud. “My little girl, she’s just so special,” mom said. “She has such a big heart, loves helping and giving back.”
