This airline passenger came in not like a wrecking ball, but with five cannonballs.
The TSA reports in a press release that the traveler attempted to bring the cannonballs through security at Alabama’s Gulf Shores International Airport.
The cannonballs, which were wrapped in paper towels and packed into the traveler’s bags, triggered a security check from Lead TSA Officer Justin Dupree, who at first through the objects might be medicine balls.
“My first thought was, ‘I couldn’t see a fuse and need to get some help quick,'” Dupree says. “I couldn’t see the entire item but was scared I might have been holding a live explosive.”
The cannonballs were inert, and it was determined that they were stolen from the historic military site Fort Morgan.
“I had never seen anything quite this unique,” Dupree says. “I’ve seen inert grenades and training munitions but never an Indiana Jones-esque stolen artifact-type situation.”
As Indy would say, those cannonballs belong in a museum.
