With Thanksgiving on Thursday, we will soon be unable to escape the sounds of Christmas music, and that includes the holiday classic “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” But have you ever stopped to wonder just how much it would cost to buy every present in the classic holiday tune?
PNC Bank has, and for the 42nd year, it has released its PNC Christmas Price Index, detailing the “True Cost of Christmas” if you wanted to buy each item in the song. Not surprisingly, it isn’t cheap.
Overall, the 12 gifts that make up the song will set someone back $51,476.12, up 4.5% from last year. Buying all the gifts online increases the price to $55,748.05, due to higher shipping and packing costs.
When taking into account gifts with the verses repeated, there are actually 364 items to buy, and getting them all will set a person back $218,542.98, an increase of 4.4% from last year.
As for specific gifts, the biggest jump in price over last year is for the “five gold rings,” up 32.5% to $1,649. Also going up in price are the “nine ladies dancing,” “10 lords-a-leaping,” “11 pipers piping” and “12 drummers drumming,” which increased 5.4% over last year.
