Three monkeys are on the loose after a truck crash in Mississippi, but the good news is you won’t catch herpes from them.
In initially reporting the crash, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department posted a Facebook post that said the truck was carrying monkeys from Louisiana’s Tulane University that “carry hepatitis C, herpes, and COVID.”
“They are aggressive to humans and they require PPE to handle,” the post reads.
However, in an updated post, the Sheriff’s Department shares a statement from Tulane, which assures that the monkeys “are not infectious.”
“The driver of the truck told local law enforcement that the monkeys were dangerous and posed a threat to humans,” the Sheriff’s Department says. “We took the appropriate actions after being given that information from the person transporting the monkeys. He also stated that you had wear PPE equipment to handle the monkeys.”
So, there’s at least one thing you don’t have to worry about.
