Reports of monkeys swinging through the streets of New Jersey were apparently greatly exaggerated.
According to PIX11, Newark Police received calls about monkeys running free in the Garden State, but could not confirm the presence of the alleged loose animals.
As for the real culprit, Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda puts the blame on artificial intelligence.
“Officers have not located any monkeys,” Miranda says. “Any photos or videos posted on social media regarding this incident are likely AI-generated.”
