If you’re looking for ways to stretch your money, here’s a life hack to turn $20 into $1 million: have really, really good luck.
Jerry Hicks, of Banner Elk, North Carolina, purchased what turned out to be a $1 million scratch-off lottery ticket with a $20 bill that he found outside of a Speedway convenience store.
“They actually didn’t have the ticket I was looking for so I bought that one instead,” Hicks tells the NC Lottery.
Hicks, a carpenter of 56 years, is using his winnings to retire, along with some other more specific plans.
“We are going to head straight to Golden Corral and eat everything they’ve got,” he laughs.
In a mirror image of Hicks’ money multiplying hack, the government has a way of cutting $1 million in half. After choosing the lump sum prize of $600,000, state and federal taxes took Hicks’ take-home total to $429,007.
