Eight-year-old Pekingese Wild Thang wins World’s Ugliest Dog “honor”

While all dogs are cute to their owners, not all dogs are necessarily lookers, and an 8-year old Pekingese certainly falls into the latter category.

The dog in question, Wild Thang, was just named World’s Ugliest Dog at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California, USA Today reports.

Wild Thang, from North Bend, Oregon, beat out seven other dogs to earn the first-prize trophy, which came with a $5,000 cash prize. Wild Thang may also be featured on a limited-edition can of Mug Root Beer, which was the sponsor of the contest.

This was Wild Thang’s fifth time competing to be named World’s Ugliest Dog. A case of distemper as a puppy left him with permanent damage, including teeth that didn’t grow properly, which is why his tongue permanently hangs out.

Coming in second was Rome, a 14-year-old Pug, followed by 14-year-old Daisy Mae in third.
