They do say big things come in small packages, but a 10-foot-wide house for $619,000 is stretching, er, shrinking things a bit.
The structure, nicknamed the “skinny house,” in Jacksonville Beach features two bedrooms, three bathrooms and over 1,500 square feet of living space. And if you’re wondering what inspired this unique piece of real estate, according to ClickOrlando it was mainly spite.
Builders John Atkins and Ryan Wetherhold of Oceanside Real Estate had originally planned to build a 15-foot-wide house, but caught flack from neighbors due to local building codes that require a home to have 7 1/2 feet of space on either side of it.
After failing to get the rule changed, the developers settled for 10 feet. Fortunately, what the lot lacked in width it made up for with its 140-foot depth.
So how’s it doing on the market? Thanks to social media buzz, pretty well, thank you.
“Normally, you get 50 views in the first few days, and this one already had 1,000 to 2,000 within the first few days,” Atkins tells the outlet. “So we knew right when we put it out there that it was something special, something unique and something that was definitely an eye-opener.”
In fact, they already have a buyer under contract, but are accepting backup offers just in case.
Revenge is sweet.
