Big Smile Country: Montana ranked as the most polite state

Montana has been ranked as the most polite state in the Union, according to Google Trends search data analyzed by the folks behind the website WordFinder.com.

According to the site, more than 270,000 of the searches per 100,000 Montanans in the past year included polite terms, especially “please.”

While it’s very likely some people are querying Google by adding the “magic word” before hitting enter, people could also be looking up such terms for other ways to say them, say for a work email or other professional correspondence.

Other such polite terms included “beg your pardon” and “thanks so much,” the latter of which was searched most commonly in the East.

California was ranked as the least polite state — according to the search numbers, at least.

In fact, just 10 searches made for polite words were found to have been made in Cali per 100,000 residents, according to WordFinder’s deep data dive.
