One year ago, Lehneah and Graham Sorkin founded Camano Island Sourdough Company in the state of Washington. When they started the company, they vowed to make weekly donations to the Stanwood Camano Food Bank. Since then, they’ve baked and donated at least 15 loaves of bread each week, all baked specifically for the food bank the night before they’re delivered.
All that giving has added up. Just as they celebrated the one-year anniversary of the bakery, they dropped off their 1000th loaf — and estimate that they’ve donated about 2000 pounds of bread.
The director of the food bank, Sam Norris, says the bread flies off the shelves and has given a big boost to hundreds of families in the community.
And Lehneah gets a boost knowing she’s helping those in need. “I’ve had several people tell me that they get my bread at the food bank and have thanked me personally,” she said. “And that just feels amazing.”
