Out on Boston Bay in South Australia, a group of Australian fishermen got the surprise of a lifetime when they spotted an exhausted kangaroo swimming nearly two miles out at sea — and were able to give him a ride back to dry land.
Jake Murray and his fellow fishermen have seen plenty of unusual things while on the water, but this was a new one. When the captain, Ryan Smith, announced that he saw a kangaroo, Jake was skeptical.
“He’s like, ‘I reckon there’s a roo in the water.’ And we’re like, ‘Yeah, sure. All right, Ryan, sure,’” Jake said.
Ryan was right. It was a roo. So the crew doubled back and rescued the tired, waterlogged kangaroo. They lowered their boat’s sea door, carefully pulled the kangaroo aboard — and Jake kept the animal warm on the trip back.
Once safely returned to the beach, the kangaroo rested up on the sand for a bit before hopping back into the wild, ending a wild and unexpected adventure for everyone.
