HBO has officially greenlit an eight-episode television adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, bringing back several stars from the hit 2018 film. Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Ronny Chieng will reprise their roles, with Michelle Yeoh returning in a recurring capacity. The series will expand the story created by novelist Kevin Kwan, with original director Jon M. Chu also executive producing. A premiere date has not been announced. (TheWrap)
Marvel Animation is expanding its Disney+ lineup with new Marvel Zombies specials and a second season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, both scheduled for 2027. The Marvel Zombies specials will feature characters including Moon Knight and the Winter Soldier, continuing the animated horror franchise. Marvel also announced development of Zodiac, a new live-action television series connected to S.H.I.E.L.D. The announcements signal an expansion of Marvel’s animated and live-action programming for the streaming service. (Deadline)
Jennifer Coolidge is officially returning for the second season of Netflix’s The Watcher, reprising her role as real estate agent Karen Calhoun. She joins returning cast members Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the mystery thriller follows a family terrorized by threatening letters after moving into their dream home. Production on the long-awaited second season is scheduled to begin this fall in New York, nearly four years after the series debuted in October 2022. (Variety)
Paramount Pictures is developing a movie adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, the popular futuristic role-playing video game from CD Projekt Red. Veteran producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, whose credits include the Transformers franchise, is attached to the project. Set in the dystopian metropolis of Night City, the game follows a mercenary navigating a dangerous world of corporate power, advanced technology and criminal organizations. The project is in early development, with no director, cast or release date announced. (Variety)
