Washington, D.C. — Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement ahead of Donald Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping, and on the news that the United States and China will extend an agreement to pause new trade hostilities:
“In return for China breaking nearly every trade promise it has made, Trump is rolling out the red carpet for President Xi. After trading away our national security and rolling back critical U.S. export controls in exchange for minimal promises on trade in agriculture and critical minerals, Trump has not even succeeded in forcing China to live up to the weak deal that he struck. China is shortchanging our farmers by refusing to buy the ag goods it promised. China is harming our manufacturers and American jobs by refusing to release rare earth minerals that it promised. There is no evidence that Trump is using this opportunity to push back on the Chinese government policies that hurt our workers and businesses, from forced labor to state subsidies. Donald Trump is giving away the store to China and leaving American families with the bill.”
