The Fourth of July may celebrate the United States’ freedom from British rule, but that doesn’t mean you have the freedom to shoot fireworks out of your car.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in Florida reports that, on July 4, it pulled over a moving vehicle traveling on the highway while also launching fireworks from the passenger window.
“When deputies made contact, the occupants denied any involvement in shooting the fireworks, until they were informed that their bright idea had been caught on camera,” the Sheriff’s Office writes in a Facebook post.
It sounds like the passenger may not be celebrating their independence for much longer, since they were arrested and charged for shooting a deadly missile from a moving vehicle.
“We understand fireworks are a fun way to celebrate, but only when handled safely and responsibly,” the post continues. “Only ignite fireworks from a hard surface, a safe distance from people and other objects.”
