A woman who might’ve felt she’d found a metaphorical winning lottery ticket by stealing an actual winning lottery ticket has been arrested.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, the actual lottery winner took his ticket into a Walmart, where employees verified that it was worth $2,700 but informed him he would have to cash it in at another location due to the amount.
The customer filled out the paperwork, but left the ticket behind. That’s when one employee, Tameka Lashon Hall, decided to take the ticket herself, according to police.
Police say that Hall told deputies that she left the store with the ticket and showed them where she left it in her car.
The ticket was recovered, while Hall faces charges for grand theft.
