Among the many lessons we learned from The Office is that you probably shouldn’t drive your car into a lake. Perhaps, though, the driver of this Tesla Cybertruck didn’t see that episode.
The Grapevine Police Department in Texas reports in a Facebook post that a man intentionally drove his Cybertruck into a local lake while using its “Wade Mode.”
According to Tesla, “Wade Mode” “allows Cybertruck to enter and drive through bodies of water, such as rivers or creeks,” though the owner’s manual cautions that the maximum wade depth is “approximately 32 in. measuring from the bottom of the tire” and that, “It is your responsibility to gauge the depth of any body of water before entering.”
Well, it appears that this body of water was a little too deep, as the Cybertruck “became disabled and took on water” upon entering the lake, according to Grapevine PD.
“The driver and passengers abandoned the vehicle and the Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team assisted in removing it from the lake,” the post reads. “The driver was arrested on charges of Operation of Vehicle in Closed Section of Park/Lake and numerous water safety equipment violations.”
It concludes, “We want to remind drivers that although a vehicle may be physically capable of entering shallow freshwater areas, doing so can create legal and safety concerns under Texas law.”
