We’re not sure you can call “punch buggy” if the VW Beetle is on the side of the cliff instead driving on the road.
According to The Associated Press, the shell of a red Beetle was spotted attached to a rock face above a highway near Squamish, British Columbia, in Canada.
The vehicle’s roof is painted with a large white E, which, as the AP reports, suggests it was placed on the cliff by engineering students of the University of British Columbia as part of an apparent school tradition.
The local government, however, is not amused — Squamish Mayor Armand Hurford calls the area a “sacred place” to the Indigenous people of the Squamish Nation.
“This is an area that deserves respect, and that wasn’t the case here,” Hurford says.
Crews are working to remove the Beetle, so they may have to add a “falling bug” sign next to any “falling rock” notices.
