Daylight saving time starts Sunday at 2 a.m. local time, but if it was up to most Americans it wouldn’t be happening at all.
According to a new YouGov poll, 64% of Americans would rather not change their clocks twice each year, with only 16% of those polled in favor of keeping it.
But if we didn’t change the clocks anymore, would folks prefer to stick with daylight saving or opt for standard time?
It turns out 43% would prefer the later sunrises and sunsets of daylight saving time, while only 28% would prefer standard time, where the sun rises and sets earlier.
Of those who tend to wake up later in the day, 49% would rather it always be daylight saving, as opposed to 23% who’d opt for standard. There isn’t as big of a split between early risers, with 38% preferring a permanent daylight saving versus 33% who would prefer standard.
And despite reminders to change their clocks each year, it seems there are still plenty of people who can’t seem to remember. The poll finds that 15% of people say they always forget to change their clocks, while another 22% sometimes forget, with only 29% of people claiming they never forget to make the change.
